Dodge’s performance nomenclature has confused buyers for years. Is an SRT better than a Hellcat? What’s the difference between a Hellcat and a Redeye? What does Jailbreak mean? Where does the Widebody fit in? This guide cuts through the confusion with a clear breakdown of every performance designation Dodge and SRT have used.
SRT: The Foundation
SRT stands for Street and Racing Technology — Stellantis’s performance engineering division. When a vehicle wears the SRT badge without a further qualifier, it means the base performance trim: upgraded brakes (usually Brembos), sport-tuned adaptive suspension, a performance-tuned naturally aspirated engine, and specific interior and exterior enhancements.
SRT examples: Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT (475 hp, 6.4L HEMI), Dodge Durango SRT (475 hp, 6.4L HEMI), Dodge Charger SRT 392 (485 hp, 6.4L HEMI). These are the entry point to the SRT world — genuinely quick, well-equipped performance vehicles with naturally aspirated V8 power.
Hellcat: The Supercharged Step-Up
Hellcat is the name Dodge gave to vehicles equipped with the supercharged 6.2L HEMI V8. The Hellcat engine makes 707 hp in standard tune (717 hp on premium fuel in later years). The Hellcat trim is always above SRT in the hierarchy — it adds the supercharged engine, upgraded cooling, larger fuel pump, and all the supporting hardware needed to manage 707 horsepower reliably.
Hellcat examples: Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk (707 hp), Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat (710 hp), Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat (707-717 hp), Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat (707-717 hp), Ram 1500 TRX (702 hp original, 777 hp 2027 model).
Note: The Trackhawk doesn’t have “Hellcat” in its name, but it runs the Hellcat engine. Jeep used “Trackhawk” as the name rather than calling it a Grand Cherokee SRT Hellcat.
Redeye: The Most Powerful Hellcat
Redeye is a step above standard Hellcat. It refers to vehicles with the more powerful version of the 6.2L supercharged engine, which uses a larger supercharger, improved fuel injectors, and a higher-flow fuel pump to produce 797 hp and 707 lb-ft of torque. The name comes from the red-eye appearance of the supercharger cap, which has a red insert instead of the standard Hellcat’s black.
Redeye examples: Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Redeye (797 hp), Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye (797 hp). There is no Redeye version of the Trackhawk or Durango.
Widebody: The Handling Package
Widebody is not an engine designation — it’s a chassis and suspension package for the Challenger and Charger. The Widebody adds wider fender flares (3.5 inches wider overall), larger 305mm rear tires (vs 275mm on the narrow body), wider front track, upgraded suspension tuning, and Goodyear Eagle F1 performance tires in place of the standard Pirellis.
The Widebody is available on both Hellcat and Redeye trims. A Hellcat Widebody combines 707 hp with significantly better handling. A Redeye Widebody is the ultimate Challenger or Charger — 797 hp with the wide stance and rubber to put it down. The Widebody transformed these cars from straight-line machines into actual sports cars.
Jailbreak: The Customization Edition
Jailbreak is a limited customization package that unlocks body color and interior color combinations not normally available on standard models. A Jailbreak vehicle lets buyers choose colors that were previously restricted — specific two-tone combinations, interior color pairings, and exterior shades that weren’t offered on standard builds.
Jailbreak examples: 2022 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Jailbreak, 2026 Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat Jailbreak (which also unlocks over 6 million customization combinations through a further expanded program).

- Charger R/T — 5.7L HEMI, not SRT
- Charger R/T Scat Pack — 6.4L HEMI 392, not officially SRT but performance-oriented
- Charger SRT 392 — 6.4L HEMI 485 hp, full SRT package with Brembos
- Charger SRT Hellcat — 6.2L supercharged 707-717 hp
- Charger SRT Hellcat Widebody — 707-717 hp + wide stance
- Charger SRT Hellcat Redeye — 797 hp
- Charger SRT Hellcat Redeye Widebody — 797 hp + wide stance
- Charger SRT Hellcat Redeye Widebody Jailbreak — 797 hp + wide + custom colors
What About Super Stock and Demon?
Super Stock: A drag racing-focused version of the Challenger with 807 hp, drag radials from the factory, and a stock car-style roll cage. Very limited production.
Demon (2018): The original 840 hp Challenger SRT Demon — the most powerful production muscle car ever built at the time. Came with drag radials from the factory, removed the front passenger seat and rear seats to save weight. 3,300 produced for the US market.
Demon 170 (2023): The final send-off — 1,025 hp on E85 fuel, 0-60 in 1.66 seconds. Only 3,000 produced worldwide. The most powerful production muscle car ever built, period.
